The content

Five perspectives on decision-making

  1. Noise

    Deciding when everyone is talking

In a stadium as in a company, decisions are never made in silence.

Pressure, information, opinions, urgency, emotion: how do you tell what must be heard from what must be filtered out?

  2. Being ready is not being able

    When demands exceed capabilities

Being competent does not necessarily mean being ready.

A new situation, a crisis or an added responsibility can radically change what an individual or an organisation is required to deliver.

  3. When the decision changes ground

What worked yesterday does not always work elsewhere

The same method can produce different results when the context changes.

Cultures, teams, resources, responsibilities, constraints: should the decision change when the ground changes?

  4. The decision nobody wants to make

    Responsibility, uncertainty and trade-offs

Some decisions offer no good solution. They demand a choice.

Wait, act, take a risk, let go: how do you decide when uncertainty will not go away?

  5. When the system talks too much

Too much information, too many people, not enough decision

An organisation can have more data, more experts and more tools… and still decide less well.

At what point does information stop helping the decision and start getting in its way?

From elite performance to business

  • Clubs
  • National teams
  • International competitions
  • Multicultural environments
  • Decisions under constraint
The aim is not to transpose sport to business. It is to use what sport reveals about people, systems and decisions when the pressure rises.

Sports Medicine & High Performance

A sports physician for more than twenty years, he has led medical departments in professional clubs and national teams, from Ligue 2 to the World Cup. He has experienced decision-making under pressure from the inside: on the bench, in the dressing room, facing the board.
